Teenage golfing sensation Lydia Ko says she will turn professional in a couple of years after the 15-year-old New Zealander finished third in the women's Australian Open on Sunday.

Ko faded on the final day in Canberra behind British Open champion Shin Ji-yai and world number one Yani Tseng but showed her class in a field that included nine of the world's top 20 ranked professionals.

Ko hopes to improve her putting and the mental side of her game while still an amateur and says she's got time to fine-tune other aspects of her golf.

Ko now heads to Thailand where she'll be playing in another LPGA event.
