The former leading French road cyclist Laurent Jalabert has been seriously injured in a road accident in the south of France.
41 year old Jalabert, the world time trial champion in 1997, was hit by a car travelling in the opposition direction which suddenly turned in front of him.
Jalabert suffered several fractures and was briefly unconscious when emergency services arrived.
