Genia promises fury for Super Rugby return

11:44 am on 16 March 2013

Adamant he's in better shape than ever, Will Genia has promised "40 minutes of fury" in his Super Rugby return for the Queensland Reds on Saturday night.

Despite more than six months on the sidelines following his knee reconstruction, the Wallabies halfback and Reds' attacking general denied he'll be easing himself back against the Western Force at Suncorp Stadium.

Genia epitomised a caged lion ready to be let out on the eve of his long-awaited return and vowed to hit the ground running.

The game's best No.9 stressed his play would only lift to another gear after his rehab doubled as his first full and proper pre-season training regime in four years.

The Reds coaching director Ewen McKenzie says he plans to replace his halfback at halftime and give the captaincy reins back to prop James Slipper.

Meanwhile, the Force suffered a blow with captain Matt Hodgson (hamstring) ruled out, opening the door for ex-Waratahs flanker Chris Alcock to regain the No.7 jersey.

The Force have never won at the Reds' home ground, Suncorp Stadium.
