The former Cronulla trainer Trent Elkin, a key figure in the drugs scandal engulfing the National Rugby League club, claims he never condoned the use of performance enhancing drugs at the club.

Elkin has issued a statement rejecting a number of claims, including those that he managed the administration of drugs used on horses to players.

The now Parramatta trainer was at the Sharks during the three month period in 2011 that is at the centre of an Australian Sports Anti Doping Authority investigation.

As many as 14 players are believed to be facing suspension for using banned substances.
