The Central Pulse have lost their opening trans-Tasman netball match against the Adelaide Thunderbirds 49-42.
The Pulse got off to a good start and were up by six goals at one point in the second quarter.
But after Thunderbirds captain Natalie von Bertouch called time out the home side switched on and took a 23-21 half-time lead.
They then streaked away to a 10-goal advantage at the final break and held off a spirited fightback from the Pulse in the final quarter.
Earlier the Queensland Firebirds beat the Southern Steel 68-59 at home.
