Reds add to Highlanders pain

2:09 pm on 30 March 2013

The Highlanders, tipped by many to be title contenders at the start of the season, have now lost all five of their games after a tense 34-33 Super Rugby encounter with the Queensland Reds in Dunedin on Friday night.

The Reds almost blew a 15-point second-half lead in the final 20 minutes when the Highlanders desperately stormed back through tries to All Blacks backs Hosea Gear and Ma'a Nonu.

In the end, Queensland enjoyed slices of luck at the death as some scrambling defence and some Highlanders' errors helped the Reds to a 5-2 record heading into next weekend's bye.

It's the first time the Reds have won in Dunedin.

The Highlanders skipper Andrew Hore was sin-binned which eventually led to Genia putting No.8 Jake Schatz over for a 21-13 lead on the half-hour mark.
