Thaiday copes one match ban for touching ref

The National rugby League judiciary took less than two minutes last night to find the Brisbane Broncos' skipper Sam Thaiday guilty of touching a referee.

Thaiday will miss Friday night's local derby against Gold Coast after the panel dismissed his argument that he's grabbed referee Adam Devcich's shirt to demonstrate how he had been held back at a scrum which prevented him from tackling Melbourne fullback Billy Slater as he raced away to score a try last Friday night.

Thaiday said he was disappointed with the result, but he was soon on a plane to return to his pregnant wife who's due to give birth within a week.
