Grand National-winning jockey in serious fall

A day after winning the English Grand National steeplechase, Ryan Mania has been airlifted to hospital after suffering neck and back injuries in a fall at a race in Hexham, in the north of England.

The 23 year old Scot is in a stable condition in a Newcastle hospital after falling from a stablemate of Auroras Encore, the 66 to 1 outsider he rode to victory in the Grand National yesterday morning at Aintree.

It was a high speed fall, and an ambulance spokesman said Mania might have been hit by another horse while he was on the ground.
