Trans-Tasman umpiring not as consistent in 2013: Taumaunu

The Silver Ferns coach Wai Taumaunu has waded into the debate over the standard of umpiring in the trans-Tasman netball competition, saying it's not as consistent as last year.

Several players and coaches have complained about the umpiring in the opening rounds, prompting competition officials to remind teams about their obligations under the code of conduct regulations.

Taumaunu would like to see more New Zealand umpires control games in Australia and vice versa but realises that's difficult with them all being volunteers and having jobs outside of the game.

She says the competition has also lost some experienced umpires this season and it will take time for the newcomers to the adapt to the physical nature of the competition, so players and coaches need to have patience.
