Wigan Athletic through to FA Cup final

12:20 pm on 15 April 2013

Wigan Athletic are through to English football's FA Cup final for the first time in their 81-year history following a 2-0 win over Championship side Millwall at Wembley in a match marred by serious crowd violence.

Wigan will play either Manchester City in the final, after the reigning Premier League champions beat holders Chelsea in the other semi-final on Monday.

Fighting broke out among Millwall fans towards the end of their game and police with batons moved in to quell the trouble.

The trouble, which left many young children in the stands in tears, came on the weekend of the 24th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

London club Millwall was long associated with violence and hooliganism in the 1970s and 1980s but had been making strides to combat the problem.
