Mathewson happy with his decision to play in Perth

The former Hurricanes and Blues halfback Alby Mathewson is happy with his decision to head to the Western Force, considering how well Piri Weepu is playing in Auckland.

Mathewson is in his first season with the Perth-based franchise and he says he's loving the change of environment.

In Wellington to play the Hurricanes this weekend, Mathewson, a four-test All Black, has been impressed with Weepu's form this year.

And while Matthewson backs the New Zealand Rugby Union's line in the sand over not selecting overseas-based players, he says there could be an exemption for players like him who are still playing in Super Rugby - as they're competing in the same competition at the same level as the All Blacks.
