The Newcastle Knights' Kiwis league forward Jeremy Smith has failed in his bid to have a dangerous contact charge downgraded at the NRL judiciary and he'll miss six games.

Smith was always going to miss Friday night's ANZAC test against Australia in Canberra after pleading guilty, but he was hopeful of a downgrade to two weeks.

Apart from the test, Smith will have to sit out five National Rugby League games.

His place in the Kiwis squad has been filled by Tohu Harris.
