The newly-crowned German football champions Bayern Munich have thrashed the Spanish giants Barcelona 4-0 in their European Champions League semi-final, first leg in Munich.

Two goals resulting from corners had Bayern up 2-0 after half-time, with Thomas Mueller opening the scoring with a 25th-minute header, before Mueller turned provider with a headed assist for Mario Gomez off another corner on 49 minutes.

Arjen Robben finished off a breakaway to score the third in the 73rd minute for the Germans - though it appeared there was a deliberate obstruction in the buildup - then Mueller sealed the deal on 82 minutes with a diving toe on a sharp cross from the byeline by David Alaba.
