The Brazilian defender Fabio Alves has been cut from Sydney FC after just one year at the A-League football franchise.
Sydney FC says the club and Alves had "mutually agreed" to terminate his contract, as coach Frank Farina rebuilds his squad for the 2013-14 season.
Farina says Alves wasn't in line to feature in the starting line-up next season.
The former Brazil under-20 representative played 18 games for Sydney FC, who narrowly missed out on a spot in the finals after finishing seventh.
