A Chechen linesman has been banned for life after assaulting a player in a Russian football match.

The incident occurred at the end of a reserve game in Grozny between Amkar Perm and local side Terek when Musa Kadyrov dropped his flag and ran onto the pitch, attacking startled Amkar defender Ilya Krichmar.

Kadyrov said Krichmar had insulted him but the player denied the allegation, saying while his team wasn't happy with the officiating and words had been exchanged, he never said anything personal about him or his mother as he knows "how sensitive Chechen people are."
