The Former Tour de France winner Cadel Evans rose to second in the overall standings of the Giro d'Italia with a solid performance in Saturday's individual time trial.
Evans managed the seventh fastest time, 39 seconds behind British winner Alex Dowsett who clocked 1hr 16min 27sec.
Fellow Australian Luke Durbridge was sixth at 35 seconds.
Vincenzo Nibali took over the leader's pink jersey by finishing fourth at 21 seconds.
The Italian leads Evans by 29 seconds overall.
Geaorge Bennet is the best placed New Zealander 54 seconds behind the leader.
The lead rider in Bennet's team Robert Kiserlovski is in 25th, five seconds behind Nibali
