Ban Beale from playing against the Lions

The Australian rugby international Kurtley Beale should be barred from playing the British and Irish Lions, as part of a tough love punishment aimed at saving his career says Beale's long time mentor and former Wallaby Glen Ella.

Ella, who managed Beale as a teenager, says the 24 year old also needs to finally admit he has a problem with alcohol.

The Australian Rugby Union, the Melbourne Rebels and the Rugby Union Players' Association will meet in the next couple of days to decide when Beale can return to the game, following his latest suspension due to an alcohol-related issue.

Beale denied he had a drinking problem after his initial suspension by the Rebels for punching teammates while they were South Africa in March.

He was also stood down for last weekend's match against the Blues for breaking the terms of his rehabilitation agreement by drinking the night after his return from his initial suspension.

Ella says Beale would be better off in Sydney where he has a support network.
