Kiwi prop becomes first sending off this NRL season

The Sydney Roosters' New Zealand prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves became the first NRL player this season to be sent off, when a high tackle left his Manly opposite number and friend George Rose running round on wobbly legs for the final 10 minutes of last night's match in Sydney.

Waerea-Hargreaves was sent off by referee Matt Cecchin for deliberate contact with Rose's head, the Manly prop saying it was the worst hit he'd received in his career.

The two props are good mates off the field, and Rose said Waerea-Hargreaves apologised to him after the match, which the Roosters won 16-4 to move up to second place on the NRL table.
