America's Cup racing to go ahead

6:23 am on 16 May 2013

This year's America's Cup in San Francisco will go ahead as planned.

The organisers have announced they've set up a review committee to look into last week's death of English sailor Andrew Simpson when the boat he was on capsized.

Tom Ehman of the hosts, the Golden Gate Yacht Club, says the review will run alongside that of the police.

Ehman says the police are expected to announce their findings within the next week, while the America's Cup review committee has been given a couple of weeks to get back to the organisers.

Ehman says their review will look to make the regatta as safe as possible.

He says the teams never discussed the possibility of cancelling the event.

The four teams involved are expected to return to training on the water at the end of the week.

Racing starts in seven weeks.
