Big improvement for Carrington

The New Zealand Olympic kayak sprint champion Lisa Carrington has won her 500 metre semi-final at the latest World Cup race in the Czech Republic.

Carrington, the gold medallist over the shorter K1 200 metre distance in London, showed great improvements over the longer distance, pulling away to claim first place in the K1 500 semi in Racice.

New Zealand's Teneale Hatton and Rachael Dodwell were also first across the finish line in their K2 women's 500 metre semi-final.

Ben Fouhy is through to the K1 1000 metre men's final, but the 2005 Athens Olympic silver medallist isn't optimistic about his chances against the in-form German Max Hoff, who cruised through both his races to comfortably reach the final.
