Evans avoids the carnage to make the podium in Monaco

The rookie New Zealand racing driver Mitch Evans has claimed a podium finish in the GP2 feature race at the Monaco Grand Prix.

Evans finished third.

He started second on the grid but a fast start helped him take the lead and avoid a massive first-turn pileup that saw the race put on hold for more than an hour.

Evans couldn't hold on but led for the first eight laps - he says he was on the wrong tyres to battle for the lead so to still be on the podium at the finish isn't bad, especially at Monaco, which is special.

It was Evans' second podium finish in his first four meetings as a rookie in this series.
