Roger Federer's reached the last 16 at the French Open, as the Swiss tennis star eased past France's Julien Benneteau 6-3 6-4 7-5 at Roland Garros.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga prevailed in an all-French clash with Jeremy Chardy to continue his march towards a possible quarter-final with Federer, while in another in straight sets victory, the fourth seed David Ferrer beat fellow Spaniard Feliciano Lopez to also make the fourth round in Paris.
The defending men's champion Rafael Nadal dropped his first set to Slovakian Martin Klizan before winning in four, 4-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 to reach the third round.
The women's champion Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams both easily won their matches.
