New Zealand athlete dies in Tahiti

The New Zealand athlete Lesley Cantwell has died in a Tahiti hospital, after collapsing at the the Oceania track and field championships in Papeete on Tuesday.

The 26 year old suffered a brain hemorrhage after winning the 5000 metres walk.

Her parents travelled to Tahiti yesterday and the chief executive of Athletics New Zealand Scott Newman says Cantwell's life support was turned off this morning.

Cantwell leaves behind a three year old daughter.
