USA pull off escape act in Kingston

The United States has pulled off a late 2-1 victory over Jamaica to take all three points in their football World Cup qualifier in Kingston.

The victory, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from midfielder Brad Evans off a corner, earns the Americans top billing in their CONCACAF confederation, the North, Central American and Caribbean group - equal with Costa Rica, who won 1-0 over visiting Honduras, and Mexico, who drew nil-all at Panama.

The country which finishes fourth in the six-team final stage plays off with New Zealand in November for a place at next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.

But there's still a long way to go in CONCACAF with today's games just the fourth of 10 played by each of the nations remaining - though Mexico and Jamaica, who are bottom, have played five games now.
