The South African golf star Ernie Els has posted his best round of the year, a nine under par 63 in the opening round of the European tour's BMW International in Munich.
The reigning British Open champion broke free from what he described as last week's US Open "torture chamber" at Merion, where he tied for fourth, to record an eagle and seven birdies and take a one stroke lead over a group that includes the home favourite Martin Kaymer.
