Sydney FC to unleash young guns

2:08 pm on 10 January 2009

The Sydney FC coach John Kosmina is ready to unleash his young guns in Sunday's A-League clash against Wellington, as his team aim to stop a run of four successive defeats.

Kosmina will start 17-year-old Rhyan Grant at the Sydney Football Stadium along with defender Zach Cairncross, while Adam Biddle and striker Kofi Danning are also in the running for selection.

Kosmina says for whatever reason things haven't worked out for us in recent games and I have to shake things up a bit.

He says Adam Biddle has been great in training and although he has had a few injuries he has been consistent for the youth team.

The Phoenix have beaten Sydney twice this season, with the last game between the sides ending in a 2-1 victory for the New Zealand side at the SFS.

Kosmina and Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert were involved in a bust-up at fulltime that day after the Sydney boss said "lucky goal", as the coaches went to shake hands, enraging Herbert.

Defeat for Sydney will be the final nail in their coffin for this season, while victory for the Phoenix could see them break into the top four going into the last two games of the campaign.

Defender Ben Sigmund is out for the Phoenix and will be replaced by skipper Andrew Durante.

Midfielder Jon McKain is also back from injury and replaces Costa Barbarouses.
