The Boston Red Sox baseball team has agreed a new four-year deal with first baseman Kevin Youkilis.

The deal is believed to be worth $41.25 million to the player and included an option for a further year.

The Red Sox in December also tied the American League's Most Valuable Player Dustin Pedroia to a six-year deal.

Youkilis was drafted by the Red Sox out of the University of Cincinnati in 2001.

After working his way through the minor leagues he finally established himself in the Boston starting lineup in 2006.
