The top seed Juan Martin Del Potro has become the first player from Argentina to win the Heineken Tennis Open in Auckland.
Del Potro won 6-4 6-4 after starting the match by breaking the sixth seed Sam Querrey's serve and effectively finishing it when he broke again in the ninth game of the second set to lead 5-4.
Although Querrey served more aces his first serve percentage of 54 was too low for him to have a chance of upsetting Del Potro, who's ranked 30 places higher.
The world number nine says he never felt in control though, and was nervous at times in the second when Querrey had three break points which he couldn't convert.
Del Potro missed a couple too, but says he served well, didn't miss miss volleys and won the important points, clinching the match in one hour 24 minutes.
Earlier the top seeds, the Czech Martin Damm and the Swede Robert Lindstedt, beat the American Scott Lipsky and the veteran Indian Leander Paes 7-5 6-4 in the doubles.
