Jermain Defoe rescued Spurs from a damaging defeat against his former club, firing a 70th minute equaliser to lift his side off the bottom of the table.
It was Defoe's first goal since returning earlier this month after a one-year stint at Fratton Park.
David Nugent put Portsmouth in front after 59 minutes following a rapid counter-attack stemming from a superb save by David James at the other end.
