The Los Angeles Dodgers have confirmed Jeff Kent, American baseball's leading home run hitter as a second baseman, will formally retire.

The five-times All-Star will draw the curtain on a 17-year career in the majors, having spent the last four seasons with the Dodgers.

Kent, who turns 41 in March and blasted 351 homers in his career, will be replaced by Blake DeWitt.
