Set 239 to win by Northern at Hamilton's Sedden Park, Otago were bowled out for 189 in 45.4 overs.
The man of the match was Northern's Graeme Aldridge, who scored 36 and took five wickets for 39.
Joseph Jovich also chimed in for the homeside with 78 not out to help set up a competitive total.
