Alinghi and Team New Zealand to square off for first time since America's Cup

America's Cup holders Alinghi have shut out arch rivals Oracle Racing in the challenger's final of the Louis Vuitton Pacific Series to set up a showdown with Team New Zealand in the regatta final.

It pitches Alinghi against Team New Zealand for the first time since they faced off in the last America's Cup final in Valencia in 2007 with the Swiss then beating Dean Barker and his crew 5-2.

When they were drawn to race each other in the round-robin series here, Alinghi failed to front saying there was nothing at stake in the race, with New Zealand, as regatta hosts, guaranteed a place in the final.

In the best-of-three challenger's final, Alinghi moved to an unbeatable 2-0 lead over Oracle with a commanding one minute seven second win after their narrow one second win in yesterday evening's first race.

The best-of-seven final between Alinghi and Team New Zealand starts tomorrow.
