The New Zealand Breakers scored a club record points tally to reach the Australian National Basketball Leage semi-finals for the first time with a 131-101 home win over Adelaide on Thursday night.

The win sets set up a best-of-three semi-final series with the defending champion Melbourne Tigers, starting next Wednesday in Melbourne with the second match at the North Shore Events centre on Friday night.

The Breakers shot to an early 22-7 lead with guard Kirk Penney scoring 11 of his 31 points in the first quarter.

But a bad spell of long distance shooting in the second saw the home side miss 14 of its 18 three-point attempts before halftime when they led by only four.

However once the Breakers offence got going after halftime they scored 81 points including 45 in a pulsating final quarter when guard CJ Bruton landed five of his seven three-pointers.
