The New Zealand Professional Golfers Association says it couldn't have made a better decision in deciding a couple of weeks ago to offer a spot in their annual championship to the world's top amateur Danny Lee.

PGA secretary Jim Clelland says Lee was always going to be welcome as a special invitee, so long as he wasn't given priority over a local PGA member, and after his heroics at the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth last Sunday, Clelland says he'll be a huge drawcard for next week's PGA championship at Clearwater in Christchurch.

The rebel Indian Cricket League has failed in a request for official recognition after meeting with the International Cricket Council and the Indian Cricket Board in Johannesburg.
