Gronholm to make one-off comeback

5:56 am on 25 February 2009

The double world champion Marcus Gronholm will come out of retirement to enter April's Rally Portugal in a privately-entered Subaru.

The 41-year-old Finn retired at the end of the 2007 season after winning the 2000 and 2002 world championship with Peugeot.

He will drive the latest specification Subaru prepared and entered by Prodrive, who ran the works team until the Japanese manufacturer announced in December it was pulling out due to the credit crunch.

Gronholm has told the WRC website he won't be aiming for a win as he wants to compare his speed with the regular drivers after the first few stages.

His great rival Sebastian Loeb has won the last five championships and the first two races of the season for Citroen.
