Australian umpire angry over Pakistan security

6:47 pm on 5 March 2009

One of the two Australian umpires caught up in the attack by gunmen on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Pakistan feels "let down" by security arrangements for the tour.

Steve Davis says his initial shock has given way to anger that safety promises were not kept.

He says there's a bit of anger they were left vulnerable and helpless in their van after being given all sorts of assurances.

Davis says the surviving police went with the Sri Lankan teams' bus and no one came back for the match officials, whose driver died in the ambush.

Eventually a police officer dragged the body out, and drove the van at top speed into the stadium.

Davis wants to continue umpiring but says he would require guarantees of tighter security.
