Indian batsmen massacre Black Caps bowlers

6:30 pm on 8 March 2009

India's made 392 for four batting first in Christchurch in the third one day cricket international with Sachin Tendulkar reaching163 before retiring hurt.

It's easily the highest ODI score in New Zealand and leaves the Black Caps ' little chance of squaring the series after they lost in Napier and the Wellington match was rained out

Nothing much went right for New Zealand after India lost Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir cheaply with Tendulkar looking imperious and rapid contributions of 87 from Yuvraj Singh and 68 from M S Dhoni.

Only Jacob Oram and Kyle Mills looked capable of slowing the torrent of runs, which included 18 sixes.

Brendon McCullum, standing in for skipper Daniel Vettori, who'd gone to Auckland for the birth of his first child, also had to cope with loss of his best pace bowler.

Ian Butler went off after five overs with a strained quad muscle.
