Blanco undergoes surgery

The former France rugby great Serge Blanco has undergone minor heart surgery and is expected to leave hospital later this week.

The 50-year-old Biarritz Olympique chairman was admitted after feeling weak on Monday New Zealand time.

A club official Marcel Martin says Serge Blanco was taken to hospital as a precaution and underwent an operation.

He says strictly speaking this was not a heart attack and he should leave the clinic before the end of the week.

Blanco was elected Biarritz chairman in December after serving for 10 years as president of the French Rugby League, which runs the union game's national championship.

The former fullback scored 38 tries in 93 appearances for France between 1980-91.
