Formula One's boss Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed the new 'winner-takes-all' scoring system will come into force in 2010.

The BBC says alhough plans for the driver with most race wins to be crowned world champion were thrown out for this season at the weekend Ecclestone says the system will definitely be introduced the following year.

He's unhappy the system was thrown out for this year and disputes talk that the new system could make for a less interesting championship, if the champion were be crowned well before the end of the season.

Ecclestone says the idea is nothing to do with winning the world championship, it is to make sure people race to win, not to be second or third and collect points.
