NRL clubs want to retain responsibility of punishing players

The National Rugby League clubs say they should retain the responsibility for punishing wayward players.

Last week the NRL stepped in and suspended Roosters hooker Jake Friend for two matches after the club earlier chose to impose a fine.

The NRL clubs at a meeting yesterday agreed that the games ruling body should only step in when the club imposes a penalty that's grossly inadequate.

The Roosters CEO Steve Noyce says the clubs are on notice
