The former world tennis number one Kim Clijsters has confirmed she's coming out of retirement and will be returning to the WTA tour in time for the US hardcourt season later this year.

25 year old Clijsters retired nearly two years ago when she married basketballer Brian Lynch and they now have a daughter.

The winner of 34 singles titles and world number one for a total of 19 weeks says she's missed playing tournaments, and she's been training harder than ever, for the last three months.

U.S. Open organisers have already said they would grant her a wildcard for the final grand slam of the season.
