Newcastle face the prospect of being evicted from their home ground with the owners issuing the club a notice of default for nearly a million dollars outstanding rent.
Just five days out from their first home game of the season at EnergyAustralia Stadium, the Knights have confirmed they owe money to Hunter Venues and have until the end of next month to settle the debt.
But the club is refusing to pay and instead claims it's owed more than $1 million for maintenance and compensation due to the stadium redevelopment.
The Knights chief executive Steve Burraston went public with the negotiations because he says Hunter Venues leaked the default notice, breaking an agreement for private negotiations underway since December.
Burraston recorded a video message to sponsors and fans on the club's website to reassure them it's still "business as usual" .
