The Mount Maunganui surfers Matt Hewitt and Alex Dive have made the last 16 of the under-18 boys division at the 2009 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
The fourth day of the event was played out in two-two and a half metre waves at Salinas in Ecuador.
The Mount Maunganui pair are the only two New Zealand surfers left in the main round of the event with their 10 team-mates having been relegated to the repercharge rounds.
The championships run until the end of the week.
