Family thanks worldwide rugby community for their support after death of son

The family of Brumbies lock Shawn Mackay have thanked the worldwide rugby community for their support following his death last week.

The 26-year-old died from complications following surgery after he was hit by a police vehicle, following the Brumbies' loss to the Sharks in Durban last month.

His parents John and Leonie Mackay have expressed their appreciation to the Brumbies for providing a home-away-from-home for their son.

They said it made Shawn incredibly happy to be part of the Brumbies and having been involved with the side for the past three weeks say they can appreciate why it became his second family while he was in Canberra.

Mackay's funeral will be held at in the Sydney tomorrow.
