Manchester City has been knocked out of the UEFA Cup in the quarter-finals by the German football club Hamburg.

Needing to overturn a 1 - 3 away deficit in the first leg, City went behind early in the game before two unanswered goals set up an exciting finish.

City captain Richard Dunne was sent off with a second yellow card in the 75th minute as the pressure began to tell.

The game finished 2 - 1 so Hamburg go through 4 - 3 on aggregate and will now face fellow Germans Werder Bremen in the semi-finals after Bremen drew 3 - 3 at Udinese to go through 6 - 4 on aggregate.

In the other games Dynamo Kyiv beat the French club Paris St Germain 3 - 0 to qualify for the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup for the first time and set up an all-Ukraine clash with rivals Shakhtar Donetsk, who won 2 - 1 at the French side Olympique Marseille to go through 4 - 1.
