Davison turns in record breaking lap at Hamilton V8 practice

The Holden driver Will Davison has turned in a record-breaking performance in practice at the Hamilton 400 V8 Supercars this afternoon.

Davison broke the track record and continued Holden Racing Team's dominance in Hamilton, posting a fastest lap of one minute, 23.56 second seconds to finish ahead of New Zealand's Jason Richards and his brother Alex Davison in a Ford.

The revamped street circuit in Hamilton produced several quick laps, with eight drivers eclipsing the one-minute, 24-second mark that no-one bettered in the inaugural race last year, when Garth Tander and his Holden Racing Team reigned surpreme.

Richards was just point two one of a second back.

Jack Perkins had the day's only mishap, coming to grief on the fifth turn of the track to end his practice session early and leave him battling to be prepared for Saturday's qualifying.

The two 200km races are on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
