Favourite starts well in club bowls fours

The hot favourite to take out the men's fours title at the National Club Bowls championships Gary Lawson of Eastbourne has started his five match, round-robin campaign in Rotorua with a solid win.

The double world champion skips line-up that includes lead, Mike Carroll, Gary Ruane and another former world champion, Andrew Curtain at three and they had a solid 18-12 win over well-performed Pat Horgan.

The Canterbury veteran and former international, Maurice Symes, had a 15-13 win over a strong North East Valley foursome, skipped by national selector and another former international, Terry Scott.

In the the women's fours there were first round wins for Mary Guldbrandson of Sunnybrae, Ellie Goble from Lepperton and Waihi's Dawn Adams of Waihi.
