Name change official for Roar

Queensland's first A-League football team will now be known as the Brisbane Roar after the Queensland Roar officially changed their name.

The Roar general manager Peter McLennan says it's a case of "same club, different name". But the club, while retaining their colours and 'lion' logo, has made major changes off-field.

As well as governing body Football Federation Australia stepping in to save the Roar by buying a 51 percent stake of the cash-strapped club recently, there was also chief executive Lawrence Oudendyk's shock resignation.

The coach Frank Farina says it "made sense" to change the name with the arrival of two more teams from the state this season - North Queensland Fury and Gold Coast United.
