Parramatta rugby league chief stood dowmn

The controversial Parramatta rugby league chief executive Denis Fitzgerald has been stood down pending an investigation into the club's recent board election.

The club released a brief statement overnight confirming Fitzgerald had agreed to the board's request not to perform his ordinary duties during the investigation.

Fitzgerald's power base was effectively eroded when five new directors were elected to the board on April 26.

The new members had a strong ani-Fitzgerald sentiment but the immediate action appears to concern the "votes for vouchers" scandal where selected members were sent $30 meal vouchers along with how to vote cards for the previous board.
