Saints talk up prospect of playing in Australian National Basketball League

The Wellington Saints want to march into the new-look Australian National Basketball League and boost the competition to eight teams.

Basketball Australia's decided to go ahead with a seven team competition which will involve the Auckland based Breakers but neither of last year's finalists the South Dragons or the Melbourne Tigers.

Saints CEO Nick Mills believes their proposal is a viable one saying they've got the infrastructure in place while the team entry cost isn't as high as previously.

He says teams could fly into Auckland and play the Breakers on Thursday night and the Saints on Saturday night and having a Wellington team would make it true trans Tasman competition.
